Coach Backs Charles Oliveira To Knock Islam Makhachev Out In Potential Rematch: 'We Have A Lot Planned For Striking'

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira maintained his position in the title picture earlier this month with a memorable performance in Vancouver.

In the UFC 289 co-main event, “do Bronx” rebounded from a difficult loss to Islam Makhachev last October by stopping the previously in-form Beneil Dariush inside one round.

While some expected the Brazilian to struggle given the manner of his setback to the reigning Russian champion in 2022, Oliveira insisted throughout UFC 289 fight week that he simply didn’t show up in Abu Dhabi.

He certainly did in Canada on June 10, and he’s now looking to secure the chance at redemption against Makhachev later this year. The lightweight kingpin is expected to defend his title for the second time in the Middle East, where Oliveira is hoping to once again share the cage with him.

And should the UFC share the same sentiment regarding a rematch, the former champ’s coach is backing a mightily different performance come fight night.
