Heavyweight Derrick Lewis was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and charged with reckless driving just 10 days before he’s expected to headline UFC 231 against Jailton Almeida.
Harris County, Texas police allege that Lewis was driving 136 mph in a 50 mph zone in a red red Lamborghini, reported ABC 13 in Houston. Authorities also stated that Lewis made unsafe lane changes while weaving his way though traffic.
Lewis nor the UFC has commented on the arrest. According to social media posts, Lewis is in Brazil Saturday’s event and UFC President Dana White is in Las Vegas.
Lewis faces the streaking Almeida (19-2) at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday. Lewis enters the both coming off a win over Marcos Rogério de Lima by TKO in July. Almeida will enter the octagon riding a 14-fight winning streak.
