Attending the Auckland District Court this morning, Israel Adesanya pleaded guilty to a drunk driving case that occurred on August 19. The UFC superstar was charged with a DUI after he was more than 50% over the legal alcohol limit, according to the NZ Herald.
In a statement directly after pleading guilty, the athlete gave a speech. He took time to apologize to his family and friends for his behavior and urged fans not to follow in his footsteps as he himself does not approve of his actions on the night.
“I want to apologize to the community, my family, and my team for the decision I made to get behind the wheel after drinking at dinner… I was pulled over and gave an evidentiary blood test; the reading was 87 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood.” Stated Adesanya. “I am disappointed with my decision to drive, it was wrong. I know that people might follow me and I want them to know I do not think this behavior is acceptable.”
The most severe outcome for the combat sports standout is a three-month prison sentence or a $4500 fine. This can be seen as completely out of character for Israel…
