UFC Champion Criticizes Cory Sandhagen For Giving 'Wrestlers A Bad Name' After Rob Font Win

UFC bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen’s dominant win over Rob Font didn’t impress some of the top names in the division.

Sandhagen earned a one-sided unanimous decision victory over short-notice replacement Font last Saturday in Nashville. Contrary to his usual diverse style, Sandhagen opted for a wrestling-heavy approach against Font and appeared to play it safe as the fight went on.

Normally, a win over a quality opponent like Font would warrant a title shot for Sandhagen. But, the approach to the victory likely didn’t please UFC President Dana White and the rest of the matchmakers enough for a shot at gold next.

UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling has been accused of using “boring” wrestling in his fights and feels similar criticism needs to be aimed at Sandhagen.

During a recent segment on his YouTube channel, Sterling gave a less-than-glowing review of Sandhagen’s win.

“Cory was in a position to be offensive and he chose not to be,” Sterling said of Sandhagen. “That’s one of the things I can agree with Cejudo when he said ‘This is not it’. That wasn’t the performance, and again, short-notice for both guys, so I’m trying to be reasonable….
